Dixie Knights (1955-????)
The Dixie Knights were based in Knoxville, Tennessee. They made regular appearances on Archie Campbell's syndicated Country Capers and Old Country Church television shows. They were also featured on the Mull's television program when that show launched in 1955. The Dixie Knights appeared at events with many popular groups of their day including the Statesmen, Blackwood Brothers, Chuck Wagon Gang and more. At one point, they were billed as the youngest southern gospel quartet. In 1957, they appeared on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts and were a featured groups on the first National Quartet Convention in Memphis, Tennessee. They also made appearances on the Grand Ole Opry.
Original bass singer Fred Rose left the group to join the Harvesters in 1958. Lead singer Danny Allen left to pursue a secular career in 1959 and later joined the Air Force.
The group recorded a few 78 and 45 singles. They also recorded a special album for their 20th anniversary reunion.
